Oslo, Norway –
Blank Space’s newest exhibition reveals a world where artists are given the task of exploring a single word: Monsters. MONSTERS: They are among us, is Blank Space’s second annual global, open call group show that gives artists, designers, and creatives of all mediums the chance to show audiences monsters both real and imaginary. The public is welcome to the vernissage Friday March 3rd from 18:00 – 21:00, and every Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 – 17:00 until April 27th 2017.

“What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark? It would be like sleep without dreams.”
― Werner Herzog

About MONSTERS: They are among us

With a word as old as time itself, there are bound to be discrepancies. Are monsters misunderstood creatures just needing comfort? Are they ancient evils waiting in the shadows, ready to attack unsuspecting non-believers? Or is it allegory for the inner darkness lurking inside us all? The symbolism of monsters, of the bad, the cast out, and the tortured soul, describes something deeper than a creature of multiple eyes, slimy teeth, and hairy knuckles. By letting artists individually explore this idea, we come to a greater understanding of the complications of grouping all things unwanted into a group with such a negative connotation such as “Monster”.

'Monsters: They are among us' follows the incredible success of Blank Space’s first global, open call group show of “Robots: “ With over 85 illustrations, 12 animations, 45 artists from over 12 countries, Robots was a wonderful adventure into comprehending the future and where we are going. Monsters aims to instead, in our “us vs. them” societal climate, take a deeper look into our own proverbial closets for what could be waiting inside.

About Blank Space –

Blank Space is a creative space in Oslo that blends openness and high quality visual art to create one of Oslo’s most beloved creative communities. Blank Space, founded in 2013, is separated in three equal and distinct parts of: Gallery, Workshop and Studio. We offer bi-monthly art exhibitions that welcome everyone, no matter their experience or the thickness of their wallet, to enjoy art in its many forms – both traditional, contemporary, and under-represented. Their aesthetic focuses on alternative” art, such as illustration, animation, comic books, street art, and printmaking.

Blank Space is most loved for its broad and varied educational division which features one day courses, lectures and discussions, multiple week in-depth classes, portfolio and project reviews, drink and draws, and casual drop-in figure drawing.

In addition Blank Space hosts 8 in-house creative work spaces available for rent. Their full scale silkscreen printing studio, as well as additional equipment such as relief printing materials, large scale printers, art supplies, lighting equipment, and a full library of art related materials helps to support artists and their ability to create work without limits.

They are located 5 minutes from Oslo S by bus, in the up and coming district of Kværnerbyen.
