'George Cwirko-Godycki' - show opens Nov 29th

Innlegg Blankspace 23 Nov 2013, 15:24

Oslo, Norway – On Friday, November 29th, 2013 blankspace is opening its newest show, George Cwirko-Godycki, featuring illustrations from underground artist George Cwirko-Godycki for the Norwegian public from 18:00 – 21:00. Refreshments will be served.

About George Cwirko-Godycki –

Those who know George Cwirko-Godycki know of his addiction. He cannot stop. Day in, Day out – he cannot sleep. He cannot look at anything without thinking of it. He carries it with him, the weight of the pressure presses against his shoulders at all time. It consumes him.

Ok, so maybe this is a bit of a dramatic way to express George’s fondness to ‘doodling’ – but now you understand the severity of just how much this man loves to draw. He doesn’t care about high-end materials or how a piece will turn out; his apartment floor is cluttered with tossed scraps of drawings interwoven between art books with half-used pencils being used as placeholders for an image that particularly caught his interest. Though he has studied art officially, unlike many unknown artists, his work becomes his own without any outside influence from those who would want to tell him how to create art. To say it better, George is addicted to learning how to draw and absorbs information - names, techniques, material suggestions, and styles - repeating them thousands of thousands of times until it becomes symbiotic to his process. At which point he is very likely to toss it all out and start over.

We open our doors to perhaps one of the world’s best underground artists and welcome audience members to peek at what exactly it looks like to be addicted to art.

About blankspace –

blankspace is an artist run facility that strives to fill the gaps present in the art world today, from artist to buyer as well as artwork to audience. They strive to open back up the transference of ideas from outsiders and strike down the exclusivity of art. While currently functioning primarily as a gallery that focuses on contemporary applications of traditional skills, they also offer workshops and classes to anyone, beginner or master, wanting to understand the craft better. In the future, they hope to expand to offer a full printing / painting studio to the public, as well as offer full-time courses in various fields of art. They will host discussions, lectures, and special exhibits from special artists across the world.

They are located 5 minutes from Oslo S by bus, in the up and coming district of Kværnerbyen.
